I have a Lenovo T61 which uses that chip. It took a little effort, but I did
get it to work. There is a development driver system available from this
site: http://intellinuxwireless.org/?p=iwlwifi
The setup, at least when I did it a couple of months ago, has to be done
manually, but it does work. It's under active development and hopefully will
be available in a stable version in the forseeable future.
