[opensuse] ext3 Journaling

I am trying to turn journaling on on ext3 non-root filesystems and must be
missing something. I added data=journal to the options portion of the
/etc/fstab entry, unmounted and mounted to no avail. Next I tried a mount
with -Odata=journal, again with no effect.
Is there something else I need to do to start data journaling on a
filesystem that currently doesn not have it?
Thank you,
Lucky Leavell
