I am using courier-imap with a maildir based setup which explains the
slightly eccentric folder naming :-) If I remember correctly (years
since I last look at this bit) this is from the spamassassin notes.

I have training script on a user account based cron job which trains and
cleans these folders out on a weekly basis...
