marvell's sk98lin even compiles on new kernels.
Yes, that struck me as odd too. My machine came with a similar card, a
"Marvell 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller", and everything just
worked out of the box. It is using the sky2 driver.

Subsequently, I found documentation on Marvell's website explaining how to install the sk98lin driver. I have tried 2 different approaches explained in their documentation but have not been successful thus far.
