Clayton, nothing quite succeeds like success! Many thanks for your help,
particularly your reference to the command line. I have just been talking to
a friend via Skype. In the process I have learned so much about the
operations of Linux. Being a complete computer idiot, I didn't even know
what the command line was, but I started to look, and I found that all the
information was already there in openSUSE, and that by pressing Alt + F2 a
window came up, into which I typed skype, and hit return, upon which Skype
was installed, and all to my gleeful suprise!
Clayton, once again, many thanks for your patience and help. God bless you.

Since you say you're a newbie, I'll critique what you just said. You
mentioned that Alt + F2 was hit upon which Skype was installed.
Actually Alt+F2 doesn't install. It runs an already installed package.
So you did have it installed by the time you got to Alt + F2.
