In older versions of Suse, smbmount was included in the samba
packages. Now I can't find it anywhere. I know I can use konqueror and
create network connections to smb resources, but I like the more
generalized nature of smbmount.

Anyone know where smbmount is -- or how to get it (short of removing
the suse samba rpms and installing samba from scratch)?

My smbmount came with the samba-client package.

As I understand it smbmount has been superseded by mount.cifs and cifs
support. I would look at

man mount.cifs

for more details.
