Re: [opensuse] Banning personal attacks

Don't you think the way you behave is a dead giveaway?

or even that there was any REASON for him to ban me.

Think about it. The reason is exactly that behaviour of yours.

Or conversely, Henne has decided that his personal prejudices
should be list policy. No company that I've ever worked for
would allow such demeaning attitude towards long-term users
of their products, especially one who is in position to advance
the company's business goals.

Small things add up. While you may be right that every single one of certain remarks alone might not justify a ban, the constant flow of them for sure does.

You are a knowledgeable person. You are also an intelligent person. But clearly, the way you treat other people just sucks.

I have a group of 160 men who lived and worked with me for 15
months who would absolutely laugh at such an accusation, and
they, more than anyone ought to know.

Last weekend, a couple of us got together to party a bit, and
out of the blue, one told me that he felt that I was part of
the glue that helped hold the whole group together, because,
as he said, "Whenever anyone saw you...what did they do? They
always smiled."

And if you think this is more "bragging" on my part, feel free
to go to http://www.theultimates.com/white and search for
Dusty Bidwell, in Millersburg, MI, and talk to the man himself.

And as much as the openSUSE community appreciates valuable input from someone who knows a lot about various aspects of Linux (and also old-time Unix) systems, there is a limit to anti-social behaviour that such a community can endure.

Making a simple observation and offering simple, useful
advice is anti-social now?

Could you just try to stay on the community side of that line?

I find it very interesting that over the last several
months NOBODY has been banned for any of several personal
attacks on me.

And yet, I'm expected to be absolutely perfect.

Why is that?

Maybe I should change my name to Johann.

I know that sometimes that's not simple. There are always people who don't read FAQs, people who don't read list charters (or who just don't give a damn), people who are just downright stupid. That's all facts of life.

And sometimes it's just plain prejudicial.
And I'm not going to abide by that.

I keeps confusing me how you as someone who advocates Linux so much OTOH values the community aspect of it all so little. Linux is all about community. But flaming people who do something wrong or who just have a different opinion is counterproductive for this community.

Actually, I do. Just not in the same way that YOU do.
I belong to (attend the meetings of) several LUGs.
I've migrated several people's home computers off of
Windows onto SuSE.

So please, try to have some more patience with those people. Maybe there is a chance for us to educate them. At least some of them. But when they leave immediately after receiving a thrashing, the impression they leave with is something along the lines of "those arrogant Linux SOBs".

IF Henne wasn't being an even bigger jerk than what
you're claiming me to be, this conversation wouldn't
even be necessary.

Chew on that for a while.
