I guess it is the webcam and skype that are not working together. xawtv works with it, and kopete works (though I only have AIM which doesn't work with a webcam), so the webcam works. I had seen skype working with a webcam on a laptop I recently installed 10.3 onto, but it was a 32 bit version, which was why I asked. Thanks again for confirming it does work with x86_64.IOW, can skype use a webcam on a 64 bit Linux?
It's no problem since the interface is V4L and just works through a device node.

How about telling us which webcam it is and which driver is used for it.
For my (cheap) QuickCam Express supported from the spca driver I had to use a newer version since the version shipped within the 10.3 kernel is buggy. Probably it's something similar for you?
