Wow, thanks for your help! To answer your other email, there is no error messages in syslog or dmesg.
All there is (when I plug it in) is:

BUT, after reading the skype forums, I created a file I called webcam under /etc/modprobe.d with the contents
options ov51x-jpeg forceblock=1
which I found reference to in the forum posts, AND IT WORKS in Skype now as well. Much thanks! I had seen this in the module rpm changelog;
