Followed the howto on Novel on setting up a dhcp server for the internal

I do not believe you have to create static routes to make this work, but
you have to be sure that each interface belongs to the right network...
you said that ath0 is connected to the ISP, and eth0 is connected to the
internal... thus, your dhcp server should listen only to the eth0
interface.... the default gw for the machines in the network is 10.0.0.1
(and they receive a 10.0.0.x address)...
and at least, you should be able to ping the 192.x.x.x address of your
server from the internal.... if you do, the iptables rules should do the
rest...
