[opensuse] Logitech S510 cordless keyboard randomly disconnecting?

I am trying to resolve a problem with a friend's computer (on
openSUSE10.3) and his Logitech S510 cordless keyboard. The keyboard
randomly stops working. The mouse that is part of the cordless
desktop thing continues to work fine when the keyboard disappears from
Linux. I cannot find anything yet to indicate exactly why this is
happening or what to do to get the keyboard recognized again short of
a reboot.
Basically the computer is in use doing regular desktop tasks, or
playing games (eg WoW in Cedega). At some point the keyboard stops
responding. Checking KInfoCenter shows that the keyboard is no longer
attached to the USB (it's missing from the list of attached USB
devices). All attempts to reconnect... pulling the batteries and
replacing, pressing the Connect button, disconnecting the receiver
from the USB port and reconnecting... has no effect on getting the
keyboard recognized again. So far the only way to get the keyboard
back is to reboot the computer.
Anyone have any ideas where I can go to try and track down what is
causing this to happen? It is so random... it makes it almost
impossible to figure out what is going wrong.
