Thanks, Fred. I've installed ONLY rpms. I don't have the patience to build something from a tarball.

When I fire up YaST and search for Firefox, all that's offered are two different 2.9.x versions. I removed Firefox, verified that there is no firefox file or directory anywhere on my hard disk, removed the desktop and menu items, and logged off.
I logged back on, verified that there was no firefox anywhere, browsed to the openSuSE build service, searched for Firefox, and installed the rpm for Firefox 2.0.0.13. The installation succeeded.

I launched Firefox from the new link that appeared in the KDE menu, and I have Firefox 3b5.

I'm going to look into the other suggestion for making my add-ons work with this beta, because I've now spent about four hours trying to get rid of it, and there's no indication that I'm ever going to succeed with that.

I might be easier. ;)
