Hi All
Frustration hit me hard last night......
Here is my experience thus far.
1) Technical Information about sound setup.
-GIGABYTE GA-G31M-S2L mother board with RealTek ALC662 Codec
onboard Soundcard
-High Definition audio with 2/4/5.1 Channel Output
Last night I tried to configure it with YaST. I went to the other button
clicked on volume. I get to the Test Window but there are no volume
sliders present. I can hear the test sound but it is so soft that my I
had to make sure it was dead quiet in my house before I could hear it.
Then I installed ALSA from the DVD. All the Alsa tools. Logged in a root
and ran alsaconf. AlsaConf picked the card up as a Intel HD audio card.
I could also just barely hear the test sound. After running Alsaconf I
had two cards diplayed in Yast. I tried both of them as the default card
to no success. When I select the AlsaConf card as a default I cannot
even get to the volume test page.
When I tried to run Alsamixer I got a invalid argument error. All the
other mixers such as KMix just show the YaST card and not the Alsacard.
So I removed the AlsaConf card. Went back to the one Yast detected and
rebooted the machine. Now the fun started I could not log in with any
other user except root.
Anyone got any suggestions?
Regards
Neil

Are you referring to the panel where you can select Volume, Play TestI
sound, Start Sequencer and so on? I did go there last night but when
select volume I don't get any volume control to set it with. I didnot
however click a button in the bottom right it was sort of in thecentre
of the screen.
Open YaST, click Hardware > Sound. Then with your sound card
selected, look down on the bottom right. There is a button there
labeled Other. Click it and select Volume. This will take you direct
to the master volume sliders. Adjust them up and click Test. Keep
adjusting until your volume is "right"
