If that is ever resolved can 10.3 32 bit be "upgraded" to 64 bit

I guess its the increasing preponderance of 64-bit systems, but this one
is rapidly becoming a FAQ.

No. Clean install only.

I'm possibly in the situation of needing 64-bit (due to memory
requirements of a particular user of my Java code), but I'm going to
try to put off the 64-bit installation until openSUSE 11.0 is out.

One thing I've been doing for years now is always using a new drive or
new partition for every major SuSE Linux / openSUSE upgrade I do. That
way I don't burn any bridges. It's costly, but much safer. On one of my
boxes, I've still got the pared down, remnant root partitions of a 9.2
and a 9.3 release—the system now running is SuSE Linux 10.0.
