Maybe your index has an error. Try (Kmail not running) renaming
~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/mail/inbox.index
..../inbox.index.ids
..../inbox.index.sorted
and then restart KMail. It should then rebuild the index files.

If it doesn't solve your problem you can remove the new files and rename the
original ones to their old names - and wait untill somebody has a better
idea ;-)
