Well I checked with the ISP helpdesk last night all the settings seems
to be correct it connects then get the Compression Control Protocol
error and hangs up. Busy researching on the net now maybe I can find a
answer. My ISP informed me last night that they do NOT support linux at
all. SO I am out on my own here.

Hi
If the ISP settings work for Windows I don't see any reason to do the
same
in Linux. You could use Windows to figure out what settings (e.g. dialed
number, etc) you should use in wvdial.conf

Hi Bogdanenter
The modem responds. I can send a AT command. It reports ok. I can
my sim card pin number too and check signal strength. Seems to be ait
problem with the ISP settings.
Thanks for the reply

First, try to connect to your modem using minicom and see if it
responds
(e.g use 'AT' and you should receive an OK).
Use 'wvdial' to connect your modem to your ISP. You need to
configure /etc/wvdial.conf.
Personally, I prefer to use Yast to configure my modem.

Hi People
Maybe some of you can help me here. I got a e220 Huawei Modem 2 days
ago
and would like to use it. My first problem was that when I plugged
Sointo the computer it picked it up as a CD ROM. Basically Vodafone
packages the drivers as a sort of Autoplay function for the windoze
people.
I installed a "device" rule which allowed me to see the Modem. I ran
Kppp setup the modem and used the modem terminal to actually talk to
it.
I could successfully send my pin number and check signal strength.
itfar so good.... then I setup the account. When I connect with Kppp
accountconnects then dies with an error stating Protocol-Reject for
'Compression Control Protocol' (0x80fd) received.
I phoned the helpdesk. Waited 15 minutes and was told that Vodafone
does
not support Linux. So armed with this I just went through the
ideas?settings and made sure that everything is fine. Well my account is
setup
correctly and my modem is responding. Anyone out there have any
