Re: [opensuse] How to create CD install media?

You don't need a high speed internet connection to install, just a local
area network. You have to obtain the image some how, regardless of how you
install. You can download the ISOs and burn your own disks, buy a boxed set
or download the ISOs to a server, reachable on your local network. If you
don't have a good enough connection to download the files then their only
option is to buy the boxed version or get someone else to burn the CD or
DVD. Regardless of how you obtain it, you can still do a network install.
Setting it up is quite easy. You simply use the mount command to loop
mount the ISO and share it. It's certainly easier than breaking down the
DVD ISO into CD sized chunks.
You can even place the DVD in a Windows box and share it that way.
The net install is very easy. You just boot the CD and at the menu hit F4
to specify where to find the ISO and what protocol to use. After that, the
install is identical to using a DVD.

Yep. And if you said any of that to a lot of Windows and MacOS users
that I know, you would have already killed any chance of them trying
out linux. They will be like:

Well, I can get Windows on a CD, why do I have to go to all that trouble?

I thought you said this was supposed to be better.

Well, nevermind. I'm not going to try it now. Thanx anwya.

Please, everyone, please stop offering instructions for something I
know how to do. That's NOT the point of this thread. The point of
this thread was about creating CD based install media, not offering
work arounds to a problem that I personally feel should not exist.

Thanx
