One more comment. I cannot get kmail to store my outgoing POP server
password in kwallet. It seems to only care about sending and not receiving.
That seems odd to me.

I had the same problem for some time, I think it has something to do with the
settings from the KDE3 kmail. Try moving .kde4/share/config/kmailrc to another
directory and setting up your accounts again.
