It didn't work for the Olympics, either. The Linux "support" (mono, silverlight) have given companies an excuse to use the monopolist crap since it's "cross-platform".
Of course, the mono people refuse to see the Microsoft strategy...
mike.
I think we need a jingle: "Stop the FUD!"
The Mono people see the Microsoft strategy, and they're working to makeI fully support getting new tech working on Linux so that we can still be relevant on the web (don't ignore the gorilla in the room). Just look at Flash, everyone jumped up and down when it didn't work on Linux and it was closed etc, now it works and almost all the open source/Linux sites present their videos with it (or just using YouTube).
sure that if Silverlight does become an important part of the Internet,
that we'll have a working, open source implementation of it so when the
next Olympics or DNC or whatever comes around, a new user to openSUSE
(or Linux in general) can watch it and not be put off to going back to
Windows or Mac. That being said, I don't know what the status of
Moonlight's compatibility with Silverlight is, so if anyone out there
from the Moonlight team would like to chime in on that, I'm sure it
would be highly appreciated.
My only concern is that when Moonlight 1.0 is stable MS would have moved to Sliverlight 2.0 (with some new closed payfor codecs etc);
and when ML catches up they will have moved on to SL 3.0 and so on. The MS SL team is much larger than the Mono team.
What about a YouTube type service that relays Silverlight content in some useful format?
Sorry, this is getting OT.
