They say I need a PC or a Mac. Aren't they one in the same?

Yes and no. It depends where the words come from. Most commonly, PC means a
computer running some version of M$Windoz, while Mac means a computer running
an operating system made by Apple. The original meaning of PC (personal
computer) doesn't see as much use, even though it has evolved to the point
that the same hardware can natively run operating systems from both M$ and
Apple, as well as those from the open source community.
