openSUSE 11.0 x86_64. All of this worked with installing WINE from the
openSUSE repository, I did not have to make any configuration changes.

.. is it even possible?

32-bit Windows programs also run under 64-bit Windows just fine (the
only issue there is hardware drivers, mainly).
