Configure Desktop better known as kcontrol and select sound & multimedia > Sound System. Then under the hardware tab
select audio device, either Advanced linux sound system or auto detect, then try the test sound button under the general
tab. I've found that playing with this has restored my sound in the past. I don't know if you've tried kmix open mixer
yet and check your volume levels, mute settings and other switches?
