Re: [Bulk] [opensuse] Software updates via a repo?

Hi,

Running 11.0 here with the stock standard OOo.org 2.4.0. since 3.0 has
been out a while and announced on the opensuse lists, I figured that I
could update my 2.4 version to the latest stablle version, 3.0 I like.

Wanting to do the update cia YAST I first searched download.opensuse
for an OpenOffice repo and found
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/OpenOffice.org:/STABLE/openSUSE_11.0/

I added the URL to my list of repos thinking that any future updates
should pop up an indicator on OpenSuse Updater notifying me of an
OOo.org update.

Went into YAST, searched for OO and noted that the installed version
and alternate version had the same version number. Was sure that YAST
would retrieve 3.0 as the addition of the repo had gone smoothly.

Chose to update OpenOffice.org and off the downloadloader went, but
from a local update mirror. I figured OK as perhaps the local mirrpr
had been refreshed with an update from 2.4 to 3.0.

147MB later I relaised that I had just downloaded the version I
already had installed ie 2.4.0, much to my annoyance and bandwidth
usage.

How can I, OR What can I, OR Can I, update OOo.org via YAST.

This would equate to other packages too ie Thunderbird, Firefox,
except the base packages for which I'll purchjase a new DVD.

Hylton

The best ways to be certain of getting the version you want is:- a)
zypper dup -r nameof youroo3repo or b) turn off all other repos except
the one you want and use yast or c) manually select the version you want
under the version tag in yast. Option c might be the only way to go if a
or b give you dependency problems. Make sure you check the correct
versions are going to be installed in the installation summary screen.
You can try different priorities for the repositories in repository
manager, a higher number means a lower priority but IIRC it doesn't work
100% in 11.0, in 11.1 you can confidently control priorities for
situations like yours.
