Hi,<snip>
I changed my desktop to Gnome because after upgrading to KDE4 my backup
script was producing an error and was not able to create the catalogs which
made it useless. I didn't have time to track down the cause and tried Gnome
and the script worked. I then decided to try KDE again with version 4.1.3
hoping that the problem was fixed. There had been a bug report that said it
was the fault of Perl (v. 10?). It was worse because my desktop wouldn't
appear at all, only a white screen.
Sounds like you did a kernel upgrade in the interim and haven't recompiled the
fglrx driver -- that is if you have an ATI card. If you do, check with 'lsmod |
grep fglrx' if so and you installed via the ATI driver package, the, as root:
sh /usr/bin/fglrx-kernel-build.sh
Failure to recompile the driver after kernel update is the #1 cause of the
dreaded white screen of death.
