I wanted to update Kmail, I figured it would update Kde also to the
latest Kde 4.1 not 4.2 . I did not add the 4.2 repository, nor did I
intend on adding it or moving to 4.2. I am not sure what happened but I
will start again from scratch with 11.0.

You are not the only one to have had problems with getting stuff you dont
want .. i wanted KDE 4.2 and wound up with 4.3 alpha stuff that caused
total mayhem on the machine wound up having to do a complete install from
the ground up because no amount of package uninstalls solved the problems.
There is definately somethink a bit cranked in the repo's at times and it
aint not fun

I guess I am not the only one, I guess it somehow added a repository based on
what it found and not what I asked for. I am in the process of doing another
complete install in another partition and hopefully get back to where I was.
