now I start a vnc server manually like this:
vncserver :49 -alwaysshared -geometry 1024x768
Copy /etc/init.d/skeleton to e.g. /etc/init.d/startvnc, then modify
according to our specs above. Start at level 3 and 5, require at least
network before starting.
I would like to have this start automatically with these settings.
After you've created the script, run 'insserv startvnc'.

You can also put into boot.local, this is called at the very enf of boot up.
I don't think boot.local is called at the end, but more toward the
beginning of the boot up. I think after.local is called near the end.
Either way, I tried both and had some success with after.local, but
didn't work 100%. You also have to setup environment variables.
I've also tried the rclocal workaround that's out there and have limited
success with that. I miss Redhat's rc.local.
I'm going to attempt the init script as Per suggested.
Thanks,
James
