on desktop: Firefox, OpenOffice.org Starter, etc.
(Images [3], [4] - these are for Firefox, but happens with any
app/shortcut on the desktop).
However, the apps can be run from the Kicker Menu.
In the case of image 3, this is normal behavior now.
you run an executable application from a desktop icon, you are asked
No, I have never seen this type of behavior on either openSUSE 11
(initial install & later on on upgrade to KDE 4.2.2) or with Fedora 10
/ Ubuntu 9.04) - all desktop icons when double-clicked run the a
particular app & there are no pop-up boxes. Also, I've never seen any
desktop icon/app having a [.desktop] extension [5].
if it's OK... if you click Continue, it will remember that decision....
for that application for that user ID. It's a security level of
sorts... to help prevent you accidentally launching an unknown
executable I guess...
Further observations on this somewhat erratic behaviour:
- Any desktop folder (I have 3 folders on the KDE 4.3.1 desktop), when
clicked, opens up with Gwenview instead of the default
Konqueror/Dolphin file managers [6].
- All desktop icons have a [.desktop] extension [5] ; never seen this
anywhere else including openSUSE 11 with KDE 4.2.2.
(Am attaching a screengrab for 'Properties' of Mozilla Firefox, as an
example [7], there seems to be nothing wrong with those.)
