[opensuse] how to recover from partial kernel upgrade?

Hello. In the afternoon I was using OpenSuSE 11 (on ibook G4/ppc) and
was offered to upgrade from current 2.6.27.39 kernel to a new version of
kernel, 2.6.27.42. I clicked yes. Then it shows a prompt of download.
Suddenly internet connection is dropped. I thus leave the PC open there
and went to do shopping, until I am back in the evening. I noticed some
error message about package not successfully upgraded. Since I don't
need the computer, I shut it down.
5 minutes later I turn on the computer and found it doesn't read DVD and
cannot surf the Internet. ifconfig -a shows there is only one device,
while /dev/hdc is missing. I looked into /lib/modules/`uname -r`/ and
found the number of kernel modules surprisingly few, only about two
dozens of files. I also noticed uname -r told me I am using 2.6.27.42.
question is how can I recover from this situation?
Does it help if I download the full kernel package and install manually?
Consider my poor skill level (I use the opensuse mostly for
non-technical work) I might need the download link directly instead of
just dropping me a hint "yes that would work". I am a bit surprised
because I think if the package and depended packages are not fully
downloaded, opensuse should not install them, that should be a basic
requirement for package manager.
thanks in advance!
