Sebastian, does your bios have a way of disabling the wireless? Obviously
Windows knows how to activate it so there must be something there. I found on
a Toshiba there was a switch which was very small and in an out of the way
place. 2 people missed that one!

Have you tried using iwconfig? man iwconfig will give you info on txpower. It
is a method for enabling and disabling the radio and enabling/disabling the
power control if they are available.
