Find out what your mail server is listening on - netstat will tell you.
It's odd that you can connect locally but not remotely - that sounds
like a firewall issue.
As I understand it, I may have to make a change in /etc/xinetd.d/imap,
but I'm not sure exactly what. Any ideas?
The obvious thing is to have xinetd listen for both ipv4 and ipv6, but
when you're connecting locally, it must be doing that already (unless
you didn't connect using ipv6 when you tried locally?)
