Several time it is required to compile kernel modules, even programs
from source. Most of the time it is a simple process, (provided that
the required devel packages are installed), giving commands like
configure, make, make install. It is not required therefore to know
anything about programming for these simple compilations.
EXCEPT that your *rpm* based system now knows nothing of the above
installation and/or what was installed, where, and/or how to remove that
installation. And future rpm operations are completely guessing what to
do as they cannot know what is now on your system and/or where.
In the case where it is necessary for your to compile on your own, at
least utilize the frowned upon checkinstall utility which provides *some*
sanity to your rpm system and a removal avenue.
