[opensuse] [OT] MAPI and Linux e-mail clients

Our organization has gone fully over to the dark side. E-mail is now
only available via MAPI. They have no interest in installing
IMAP/POP/SMTP in their Exchange server. (Note the us/them tone...) End
of discussion. Sigh.

On Linux, I can use the web interface to outlook in a browser. But that
is about it. I have yet to find a MAPI client solution for a Linux
e-mail client. At least not that I can run on openSUSE 11.2 or 11.4.
(The MAPI support for evolution on OBS is strangely in a different repo
with different dependencies than evolution, making installation very
obtrusive to the rest of GNOME. Why the evolution MAPI plugin is not in
the evolution repo so this is minimized is a mystery.)

Has anyone found a working MAPI client for openSUSE? The searches I have
done indicate that this is not ready for prime time. Perhaps because the
protocol is poorly documented. Some sites offer as solutions the
installation of additional software on the Exchange server. I would
imagine that in most places this will not happen. A MAPI client for
Linux is needed.

Any pointers or suggestions on dealing with MAPI from openSUSE are
welcome. I am hoping I have missed something.
