[opensuse] kmail delete key not working

I want to delete a message. I press the delete key. I get:

The key sequence 'Del' is ambiguous. Use 'Configure Shortcuts' from the
'Settings' menu to solve the am. . . .

I go to the setting menu but I cannot make the Del key be accepted. There is a
red cross which prevents me activating it.

Any ideas anyone?
