I don't know the facts of this particular incident. If the
"disagreement" involved getting into personal attacks, then certainly the
banning would be appropriate.

Throwing tantrums is not the way to get things done.

Then the KDE4 team should not have started doing exactly that.

Responding "in kind" is not necessary. Doing so does not solve the
problem, nor does it fix the problem. It simply escalates it, and that
doesn't help anyone.
