On a similar topic. Would it be possible to put a more recent version
on the repositories? Mine shows version 1.0.7. The Firefox website
shows 1.5 as the most recent.

It would not be possible to add it to the repositories. That is not the way debian and debian-based distro's work. To use firefox 1.5 you have to get dapper or install it manually.
