It might be a limitation of your version. Dapper has no problem
putting the icons on the desktop while the Media notifier is turned
off.
Neither does my copy of Breezy though!!! Would my having updated to
KDE3.5 have made any difference though?
doesn't break anything (like 3.4.1 did) I'd be interested.
I think Rick's right, that it's the KDE version that matters. 3.5 will
probably break some things for you. I don't recall it being a particularly
stable upgrade, but I think it's worth the troubles.
