Yesterday someone quite experienced in the technical field had a
look at my laptop to find out why I couldn't make a wireless
connection. He found that he could log into my system after
booting but for some reason when he tried to do something and he
was asked for my password it wasn't accepted.
It sounds to me like there may be an issue with your account not being
authorized for sudo. Does your laptop have more than one user
configured? There should be at least one user set up that can run as
sudo. The trick, of course, is becoming a sudoer when you don't have
sudo rights. Sort of difficult by design.
