What is an NTFS *file*? NTFS is a file system - not a file format.
There's a hda1 icon on the ubuntu desktop but its permissions are
currently 400 and greyed out so
I can't write to it. I tried chmod 660 but it has no effect.
If you WinXP drive is formatted in NTFS (as opposed to FAT32) then you're
outta luck. There's only experimental write support for NTFS under Linux and
until M$ reveal the inner workings of their proprietary file system, it's
likely to stay that way.
How can I get that NTFS file into hda1 without doing it in Windows?
If you're comfortable enabling write support for NTFS (probably requiring at
least a recompile of the kernel module, if not the whole kernel itself), then
just boot windows.
Cheers,
James
