That name sounds sensible, but you could use any name you want. I have
one file in there to blacklist bcm43xx called broadcom_sucks and that
works fine as well :)

Do I need to do anything after the file is created (or
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-kernel-nkc is modified)?

A reboot may be needed to make these changes effective since I guess
that you can't simply unload/reload that particular driver.
