Skype and ringtones

Hi,

The static QT version of skype works ok, apart from the fact that it wont give me ringtones (neither on incoming or outgoing calls). This happens when I start skype automatically at Gnome startup (prefs->sessions->startup programs). If I start skype within a terminal it works ok. What could cause this?
