Hey,
I just had a scare. I almost lost all my important passwords and other
critical data. But thanks to my backups I didn't.
You see, I deleted the ~/.kde directory thinking "I use Gnome, I don't
need that". But I was forgetting that I use the KDE wallet (ie. password
manager) to store all my private data (I have a LOT of passwords). Next
time I clicked on the Wallet icon I got the message "You don't have any
wallets". I think I felt my heart stop... but thankfully my system is
setup to do daily backups. I quickly got my wallet back and didn't lose
a single password.
The moral of the story: Backup your home directory.
Ubuntu has an easy to use backup tool, I highly recommend it. Install it
right now, don't wait! : sudo aptitude install sbackup
After installing, go to System > Administration > Simple Backup Config.
The default settings are great, you can take those.
Cheers,
Daniel.
You are lucky.. 8^))
I can't get God to do backups for me..
Gota do them myself
