Dapper Beta Live on Dell C.400

I booted my laptop, a Dell C.400 yesterday with the Beta 2 Live CD for
Dapper. It booted, and then Gnome complained a couple of applets had
failed to initialise and then it sat there with the CD being very active
and the cursor hardly responding at all to mouse movements. Anyone else
seen this? Any hints to make it work better?
