Hello all

I've been trying unsucessfully to create a desktop launcher for
midnight commander but as root. I've tried gksu, gksudo, sudo,
su, and gksuexec. I guess the catch is mc has to be run in a
terminal as root. Nothing I have tried works. Got any
suggestions, I must be missing something obvious!

I'm not sure what terminal you use, but say you use xterm, for sake of
argument. The appropriate command could then be

gksudo 'xterm -e mc'

The -e switch tells xterm "execute the next command." Every terminal
has some similar command, and I think it's -x in gnome-terminal.

After trying this one and various otherf combinations Peter Garrets suggestion of
a simple " sudo mc " with the default terminal changed from gnome-terminal,
which doesn't handle mc properly on my machine, to rxvt-unicode which does,
it works. The root mc comes up in a small terminal window but I can handle that.

Thanks
