Screensavers in Dapper

Odd.
Setting up screensavers in KDE 3.5 and Dapper (using Control
Centre) seems to work OK - the previews are fine and the
screensaver tests OK - but none of those I have tried operate if
I simply leave the computer for a few minutes (I usually use 5
minutes, but in desperation I have been using 1 minute to test)

Anyone else had this problem?
Better still - has anyone fixed it? If so, how, please.
