Sheesh! Why not just install the _Ubuntu_ Sun Java packages! They're in
sun-java5-jre and sun-java5-jdk.

Indeed... absolutely NO NEED to go back to this prehistoric pre-Ubuntu-era practice of fiddling around with rpms, dependencies..

... that's just SO un-Ubuntu. :)

Just click System->Administration->Synaptic and search for the "sun-" stuff. Select, Apply, Be Happy.
