i need backup please!!!

Just a few weeks ago my good friend bought a second-hand laptop, an IBM
thinkpad. Of course running windows, he encountered several problems
with it including rapidly degrading performance and asked me to have a
look at it. I duly did this, installed AV software and cleaned out 80+
infections. To cut the story short depsite my best efforts the Windows
install was left a wreck. Knowing that IBM has good compatibility with
Linux I seized the opportunity to convert my friend to Ubuntu (my pet
love). I asked him all about his computer usage habbits and there was
nothing that Ubuntu couldn't do better for him. He mentioned he had a
webcam and he had plugged it in, used it once and never used it again.
Figuring he didn't care about this I spent an entire evening setting up
a system for him and helping him learn it.

Then he dropped the bombshell, he demanded the webcam work for Yahoo!
Messenger. I'm in a jam here, he is impressed with the new system but
will be seriously disappointed (and angry) if I don't give him webcam
support. I have tried his webcam and luckily it is automatically
detected and works fine (with Ekiga), but what am I going to do to get
it working in Yahoo? I think that once he sees it works in Yahoo he will
forget all about it, but until that time he ain't gonna be impressed
with my darling Linux. I tried yahoo messenger under wine, no need to
say it was a complete failure(just like with all apps i try in wine,
mind you steam runs well but not CS). I need some backup from you guys,
what am I going to do to get me out of this pickle?

Regards,
Gabe
