I updated the apt-sources.list to include the repository for skype, andMost likely - You will have to request a new password.
ran sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install skype.
The install ran with no errors.
When I start skype from the command line, there are no errors.
When I start skype from either command line or from within gnome, I
cannot login. I'm sure the user and password are correct (I have 2
systems running ubuntu 5.10, and the other system - a laptop - runs
skype fine, although I installed skype without the repo update for that
one).
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
The lost password part of their service will look after it.

Please re-read the original post (above). "I'm sure the user and
password are correct...". Why would I need 2 different skype accounts
for 2 different machines?
