I didn't, but I installed with apt-get.
hrmm... maybe a force re-install from apt-get would clear it up..
but, it seems that it is running, even with those errors.
I tested clamscan and it finds the test files, and also performs a scan,
except that i got a msg about it only being able to read a certain type
of tar file...

Your errors are for freshclam, not clamav, so that's not surprising.

To scan additional file types there are optional packages you have to
install. You can find the list in the clamav listing at
http://packages.ubuntu.com/
