I'm trying to install Ubuntu on my pc at home. Got the ISO from the
Internet. It installs fine until I must lock in. It doesn't seem to remember
my user / password because it keeps on telling me that it is not correct. I
used simple things like my name - all in lower case - and numbers like
12345. please if you can help me on what I must do I'll be grateful.
PS. I installed the package 5 times to try and rectify the problem.

Hi Eslabe!
0. My first guess is that you do not understand that you type and the
feedback of that is either "*"(s) or absolutely nothing (no echo of
any kind). I do not remember which it is in the setup screens. You
need to type in a password, hit the "tab" key once and then key in
exactly the same password again (they do this to confirm that the
password is correct. CASE IS CRITICAL!!!!! If you somehow go into
"caps lock" or use the number pad and it is not in "Num Lock" it will
not see the same password and it will not work. Check "Caps Lock" and
Num Lock" as you input the password in the setup process and that they
are the same when you boot to the sign on screens.
You give very little info. We need:
1. Which Ubuntu - is it Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper) or is it an older version
and if so which version. I ask because in order to install Dapper you
need to first run it in the live mode (standard PC edition anyway). I
guess we need to know which Dapper (Desktop - Server - or Alternate?).
If you are not running the live mode first we do need to know that.
2. What kind of hardware. Mother Board, CPU, how much memory, Hard
Drive (brand and model), video, and monitor are the main things.
3. Where exactly in the process are you (tell the three steps before
the "lock in", and tell us exactly what you are doing as this occurs
and what is happening on the screen.
Good Hunting!
