Scons is supposed to respect the CC variable, IIRC, so perhaps the
pythonmagick packager has done a bad job.

I have no idea why it is trying to run o, but that is the same thing I got when
I did your other 2 ideas (including the one you recommend against, which I then
un-did :)

Yes, that's odd. I have no idea what the 'o' program would be. Do you
have a link where pythonmagick can be downloaded from?
